We are on the move again! This time we have stopped in Chartres to finally visit this most elegant and spiritual cathedral. With its stunning stained glass, lofty towers and the very special labyrinth, it is a a must to visit. And I feel to return to. The son et lumiere on the rose windowed portal at night was also delightful. Quite a show.we have chatted with visitors and tried a bit of French! There seem to be less visitors at present but our hotel is full. Whenever we visit France there is always something so beautiful to see. On our way to our London home we saw the Osprey in Orleans Forest. Now we see this special place for the first time instead of just passing by. Soyez courageux. We should show our friendship with France and make sure we visit when we can!

We must go again. It has been far too long since we visited France. I love the place. You have whetted my appetite, Georgina.

Yes, I want to go back to Chartres and will definitely try and make it a stopover more often. Just the right distance from the ferry for a day’s journey but it seems also just an hour by train from Paris.

Thanks for joining me. It was a trip that took me a long time to get inside the cathedral!

I completely agree with you Georgina! We must continue to visit France and other beleaguered countries to show solidarity. We recently travelled to southern Germany on the train for a holiday passing through France and Belgium too.
You have taken some lovely photos of Chartres cathedral. We were talking about re-visiting France just the other day…

There is always something to captivate in France but there is a real edginess at times and not helped by show of arms rather than security checks. Think the UK had to learn a lot from the IRA troubles.

Thanks but I missed seeing the whole of it without the chairs!

oh that brings back wonderful memories of a trip there 30years ago . . . when we went we were lucky enough to find all of the chairs to one side so could see labyrinth. No idea if it was a Friday but guess it could have been reading your post.

Lucky you, we went back on the Friday morn but the chairs were still there and we had miles to go!

This was always a favourite with me, when I studied medieval art history way back.

Yes, I think Chartres could always be revisited and rediscovered. The museum of stained glass was fascinating with historical items and a modern gallery.
